Tank 300 hybrid descriptions can refer to materially different vehicles. A conventional HEV and a Hi4-T plug-in hybrid should not share one battery checklist or charging promise. Identify the exact powertrain and market before assessing a used car. The objective is a credible condition and support decision, not a claimed battery-health percentage inferred from the dashboard range.

Identify HEV or plug-in hardware first

Record VIN, production date, engine and battery identifiers, market specification and charging-port evidence. Do not use the word hybrid as a complete technical description. Request a qualified high-voltage inspection

Do not work on orange cables or interpret a safe-looking underbody as electrical isolation proof. Read battery data with its measurement context

For an HEV, assess normal starting, power transitions, regeneration and warning behaviour under suitable driving conditions. Do not assume that normal electric assistance confirms transfer-case or differential condition, or that a healthy petrol engine establishes normal battery operation.

Check support and warranty without importing promises

Ask the relevant provider whether the VIN and destination are eligible for any remaining coverage. Battery warranty language from a local-market advertisement must not be copied to a grey import. Establish who can diagnose the vehicle, order the correct components and perform authorised software or repair procedures. Ask whether proposed repair is pack replacement, component work or further diagnosis, and what evidence supports it. Include transport and downtime in the budget where support is distant. The cheapest hybrid is not necessarily the lowest-cost option if a small fault requires unavailable specialist access.

Compare candidates using matched evidence

Compare an HEV with another HEV and a plug-in with a comparable plug-in before drawing battery-condition conclusions. If choosing between families, compare the intended route, access to charging, cargo and support rather than ranking unlike health figures. Keep untested functions visible in the inspection report. A candidate with a transparent repair history and a credible repeat test may be more defensible than one with missing data and a perfect-looking screen. Approval should describe the measured condition and accepted limitations, never promise a fixed remaining battery life from a single pre-purchase visit.
