2024 vs 2025 Petrol Tank 300: Is the Upgrade Worth It?

A newer petrol Tank 300 is worth more only when its identified factory changes, usable equipment and condition justify the complete price difference. The manufacturer’s 2025 China announcement describes mechanical and cabin updates, including a nine-speed automatic for its stated petrol range. That is not proof that every 2025-registered used car has the same package or that an overseas version changed at the same time.

Decision brief

Compare earlier and updated China petrol Tank 300 candidates by verified gearbox, equipment, condition and the actual delivered-price premium.

01

Separate the China launch reference from registration dates

Record production date, original market and the exact factory description for both offers. A car registered later can be an earlier build, and an overseas model-year label may follow a different introduction schedule. The official 2025 announcement supplies a dated Chinese reference, not an identifier for an arbitrary VIN. Start with the version and production guide. Ask which records support the seller’s update claim and retain photographs of the actual cabin and controls. Resolve inconsistent year descriptions before deciding whether the newer advertisement is worth an additional payment.

02

Compare the gearbox as part of the complete powertrain

The manufacturer identifies a 9AT update in its 2025 petrol announcement. Verify what is actually fitted to both candidates instead of inferring the gearbox from a selector photograph. Different engines and electrified arrangements need their own identification. The 8AT-versus-9AT decision addresses the purchase implications without equating every nine-speed system. Confirm available service information, correct materials and workshop support for each exact unit. A higher gear count is not itself proof of smoother operation, lower repair exposure or a fuel saving on the buyer’s route.

03

Trial the functions that changed the daily task

Make an essential-equipment list before testing screens, cameras, seat functions and assistance hardware. Establish which additions are factory installed and which were retrofitted. Demonstrate phone and language functions with the intended devices. The technology compatibility guide distinguishes installed functions from regional services or promised software updates. A new-looking dashboard can be desirable without providing every feature advertised elsewhere. If a function materially affects the price decision, require it to work on the offered vehicle now or describe its pending status explicitly in the quote.

04

Road-test matched tyres and loading conditions

Arrange safe trials on representative paved roads and any permitted route relevant to the purchase. Record tyre specifications, pressures set according to applicable instructions and suspension modifications. A later vehicle on fresh road tyres is not a controlled comparison with an earlier car on worn mud-terrain tyres. Use the motorway noise and vibration trial to preserve the conditions behind the impression. Have unusual engagement, vibration or warning behaviour assessed separately. Do not attribute a fault to normal differences between years or assume a later badge removes the need for an independent diagnosis.

05

Put the factory upgrade beside real condition evidence

Use equivalent frame, accident, water, powertrain and electrical inspection scopes. An earlier stock car with strong records may be more predictable than a newer modified one with incomplete repair evidence. The inspection checklist keeps the standard consistent. Check ownership and service use rather than accepting lower age as proof of gentle duty. Document known preparation on both candidates. A current equipment reference cannot establish the history of the actual car, and a clean showroom finish cannot show what happened under guards or within repaired mounting areas.

06

Calculate what the remaining premium buys

Add known preparation, required accessory correction and equivalent delivery costs to both offers. Isolate the difference after those expenses, then name the actual benefit: a needed function, a verified configuration or a more supportable condition record. Do not treat the foreign manufacturer price or an expired promotion as the export selling price. The price guide supports a matched quotation. Keep a repair reserve beyond purchase and freight. A newer car that uses every available fund may be a weaker choice when its practical improvements are small and the earlier candidate already meets the brief.

07

Choose a documented update rather than a universal winning year

Select the updated vehicle when it offers verified benefits, acceptable condition and a supported ownership path. Select the earlier one when it meets the task with a materially lower complete exposure. If an advert combines an older build with a newer feature list, request corrected terms or another candidate. Preserve the production evidence, test results and quote version so later handover can be checked against the same description. The best purchase is the identified car that passes the brief, not whichever offer carries the largest registration year in its headline.
